DC/18/0915/LBC | Listed Building Consent - The property was the family home of George Orwell from 1932 to 1939. There is an existing stone plaque on the front of the property which is in very poor repair. It also appears that the original inscription was not properly completed (e.g. there appears to be a bracket missing) possibly due to the crumbly nature of the stone. The proposal is to place a new plaque over the old one thereby significantly enhancing the appearance. The new plaque will be specially made from high quality Welsh slate. It will be 30cm x 30cm and will say "The family home from 1932 to 1939 of George Orwell (1903-1950)". It will be screw fixed to sit over the existing stonework inscription and will be white lettering etched on the black slate. The existing wires running across the front of the house will be moved slightly if required. | 36 High Street Southwold Suffolk IP18 6AE
